કીર્તન મુક્તાવલી
(૧) સંત વિના રે સાચી કોણ કહે
વચનના ચટકા ખમે તો ગુણ આવે
“‘સંત વિના રે સાચી કોણ કહે...’
“શાસ્ત્રીજી મહારાજ આ કીર્તન બહુ ગવરાવતા. જ્યારે સારંગપુરમાં પોઢ્યા હોય, ત્યારે સનાતન સ્વામી કીર્તન ગાય. સ્વામી માળા ફેરવતા હોય. આ પ્રસાદીનું કીર્તન છે. આ કીર્તન નિષ્કુળાનંદ સ્વામીએ મૂળ અક્ષરમૂર્તિ ગુણાતીતાનંદ સ્વામી ઉપર જ કર્યું છે. આમાં જે સંતની વાત લખી છે તે ગુણાતીતની જ છે.
“પોતાનો રંગ આપવા માટે સત્પુરુષ કઠણ વચન કહે છે. ટોકણી કરે, વઢે. ઇયળનું અંગ બદલાવી ભમરી છત્રીસ ચટકા ભરે છે. સત્પુરુષના વચનરૂપી ચટકા ખમે તો ગુણ આવે. સભામાં ટોકે, બહાર ટોકે, પણ ખોટું લાગવું ન જોઈએ. અપમાન કરે તોય મનમાં ઝાંખપ ન આવે.
“ભાયલીના નીલકંઠ સ્વામી હતા. સ્વામી ટોકે, નિર્ગુણ સ્વામી ટોકે, તોય ખોટું ન લાગે. એક વાર ખાનદેશ ગયા. તે એવી કથાવાર્તા કરે ને એવાં કીર્તન ગાય તે બધાં રાજી થઈ જાય. રાગ પણ એવો સુંદર. ઝાલાવાડમાં મોજીદડ, ચચાણા, અડવાળ બધે ફરતા. અડવાળના બાપુભાને એવો રંગ ચડાવી દીધો કે સ્વામીને તેમણે કહ્યું, ‘આપની સાથે આમને જ લાવજો.’ ગોંડલમાં રસોઈ કરતા. મગજ શેકે. સામેથી સ્વામીને પૂછવા જાય કે બતાવો. સ્વામી પણ તેમને ઘણું સાચવે. તેઓ સ્વામીને ઘડી ઘડી તુંબડું લઈ પાણી પાવા જાય. નિર્માનીપણું ઘણું. સ્વામી પાણી માગે ને આપે એમ નહીં, એની મેળે જ જાય. સાધુ થયા પછી પાંચ-છ વરસ જ જીવ્યા, પરંતુ કોઈનોયે અવગુણ ન આવ્યો. બધામાં દિવ્યભાવ! નિર્ગુણ સ્વામી તો સભામાં ત્રાટકે, પણ ઝાંખપ નહીં. તેઓ ધામમાં વહ્યા ગયા તોય તેમના ગુણ ગવાય છે. તેમને યાદ કરીએ છીએ.
“સંત તો આખા દેશના ને દુનિયાના સગા છે. તેમને તારું-મારું હોય નહીં. તો તેઓ ટોકે છે શાથી? જીવને આગળ વધારવા સારું ટોકે છે.”

(1) Sant vinā re sāchī koṇ kahe
When One Tolerates Harsh Words, They Acquire Virtues
“Shastriji Maharaj would have ‘Sant vinā re sāchi kon kahe...’ sung quite often. Whenever he was sleeping in Sarangpur, Sanatan Swami would sing kirtans. This is a prasādi kirtan. Nishkulanand Swami wrote this kirtan with Mul Aksharmurti Gunatitanand Swami in mind. The Sant that is mentioned in these kirtans is Gunatit.
“The Satpurush speaks harsh words because he wants to make others like himself. He may criticize or scold. The bee stings a worm 36 times (to make it like itself). If one tolerates the stings of the Satpurush (in the form of his harsh words), then one acquires his virtues. He may criticize in sabhā, outside... but one should not feel hurt. Even if he insults, one’s enthusiasm should not fade away.
“Nilkanth Swami was from Bhaili. Swami (Shastriji Maharaj) would criticize him; Nirgun Swami would criticize him. He never felt hurt. Once, he went to Khan Desh. He did such great kathā and sang such great kirtans that everyone would be pleased. His voice was very nice. In Jhalavad, he traveled around Mojidad, Chachana, Adval, etc. He garnered such a great impression to the Bapu of Adval that Bapu said to Swami, ‘Bring him along with you.’ He would cook in Gondal. Make sweet items like magaj. He would go and ask Swami to show him how. Swami would also take care of him. He would bring water to Swami often. Very humble. Swami did not have to ask; he would just go give him water. After becoming a sadhu, he only lived 5 to 6 years. He never developed an aversion toward anyone. He perceived everyone as divine. Nirgun Swami would even criticize in sabhā but his enthusiasm never dampened. Even though he has gone to Akshardham, everyone sings his praises and remembers him.
“The Sant is related to everyone in the country and the world. He does not have feelings that this is mine and this is yours. So why does he criticize? To push the jiva forward.”
